With Takeshita killing the star host and sending Kawai back to Tokyo, the swindlers were on the back foot in the 6th episode.

In addition, Orochi has an accident while following Kawai from the airport.

Let’s see what happens in the final episode.

Tokyo Swindlers (2024) Ending Explained and Episode 7 Recap

Takumi calls Orochi again, and he tries to answer the phone but fails to do so due to the fatal injuries he has suffered in the car crash.

He then tells Goto that they need to wrap things up quickly, for Kawai will arrive in 15 minutes. The latter swiftly walks up to the herd with Reiko and tells them that she needs to rest.

Goto asks for Aoyagi’s opinion on whether they should head to the Sekiyo office and skip the temple tour.

But Aoyagi is not impressed. He wants to see inside the temple. He says it would be great for them to seal the deal inside the main hall.

Further, he says, their business values veneration and upholds tradition.

Reiko unlocks the door to the premises and they enter inside. Just when they reach the temple’s door, the arrival of a taxi captures everyone’s attention.

Color fades away from Takumi and Goto’s faces while Reiko finds it hard to manage herself. Aoyagi asks if all is well and the swindlers fake an affirmative nod.

Takumi has his heart in his mouth before an elderly couple walks out of the taxi. Things return to normal and the Sekiyo team enters the temple.

They offer their respects but before concluding the deal, Aoyagi throws a surprise.

He takes out a letter from his pocket and asks Reiko to read it. To the swindlers’ surprise, the letter is written in the name of Kawai.

Reiko reads it and finds out that it contains a message for Aoyagi not to go ahead with the deal.

Goto grabs the letter from her hand and gets furious upon reading it.

According to the letter, an imposter is trying to sell the land to Sekiyo and the deal isn’t genuine.

Goto lashes out and calls the letter a sabotaging attempt from rivals.

Even Aoyagi agrees to him but he also cannot deny the possibility of it being a real letter written by Kawai herself.

He screams at Goto saying 11 billion are at stake and they cannot afford to take chances.

In the tense situation, out of nowhere, Reiko starts crying. She apologizes for not being completely honest with them.

She points out the idols in the temple and says they are not Important Cultural Property.

Reiko then takes them further inside the temple and enters a room, which houses the statues of the Five Tathagatas. They are rarely shown to the public.

She calls them the real cultural properties. But how did she come to know about them?

Reiko knew about the statues as Takumi had asked her to memorize them while they prepared for the meeting earlier on.

She says that she is appalled by the letters as this is their ancestral land.

Holding Aoyagi’s hand, she swears on Buddha and further states that the contents of the letter are not something she would ever write.

Her words sound genuine to Aoyagi and he feels content with her assurance. The guy even asks for forgiveness for his behavior.

In an emotional statement, Reiko requests the company to use the land for society’s betterment.

As Aoyagi exits the temple with his team happily, he generously apologizes to Goto for raising his voice at him earlier.

Just as they walk out, the taxi carrying the real Kawai enters the frame. Fortunately for the swindlers, they don’t notice anything.

Quickly, Goto and Takumi shut the main door while Reiko closes the temple’s door before Kawai can enter.

Although she finds it strange to see the lock open, Kawai doesn’t feel the need to take stress.

Later, at the Sekiyo House Head Office, a sale and purchase agreement is sealed between Abiru Holdings and the Sekiyo House.

Once the formalities and paperwork are done, the money transfer takes place with Abiru Holdings receiving 1 billion yen as brokerage fee and the swindlers getting over 10 billion yen.

Harrison appreciates Takumi for handling the job really well and says he will launder the money before paying him.

He also asks him to inform the other two members that it might take some time for their share to reflect in their accounts.

Takumi asks about Takeshita and whether he was the one behind the hiccups during the job. Harrison replies with a cryptic answer, enough for Takumi to apply his mind and understand.

When Takumi leaves the den and drives to his makeshift apartment, Kuramochi follows him. She knocks on his door and asks him to open it but he doesn’t.

The cop introduces herself and reminds him that they recently met at the cemetery.

She tries a lot but Takumi doesn’t open the door. Still, Kuramochi goes on to reveal the findings of her investigation.

What Did Kuramochi Find in Her Investigation?

She found out about Nishitani, the swindler who conned Takumi’s father. His real name is Kazuma Saeki.

He is currently hiding in Manila at a detention center. Apparently, in the Philippines, it is safer for fleeing criminals to stay in detention centers than in hotels.

Saeki has been giving directions from the center for some bank transfers in Japan.

Kuramochi reveals that he fled Japan because he almost got killed at the hands of Harrison.

Takumi’s father was conned by none other than Saeki on the directions of Harrison. He used to work under him.

Harrison tried to kill Saeki as they had an argument over splitting the money from the job. According to Saeki, Harrison is a lunatic.

He doesn’t want money. Instead, he enjoys killing the imposters and his associates once the job is done.

Not just that, Harrison likes to film their murders.

Kuramochi believes that Harrison knew about Takumi’s history. He knew that he had conned his father earlier when he asked him to become a land swindler.

Before leaving his place, she tells Takumi that Harrison is planning to kill him. She leaves the pictures and her business card at his door and exits.

Takumi brings the articles inside and is shocked to see Harrison’s photograph with Saeki. He is aghast and flustered.

An emotional reaction runs through his body, resulting in retching and fidgeting.

The scene cuts and we see Aoyagi hosting a party for his team members for the grand deal they just sealed.

Abekawa, the company president, arrives at the party and congratulates him for the success. He further says that he will recommend Aoyagi’s promotion to director.

A week later, when Kawai steps out of the temple for cleaning, she notices several people, dressed as construction workers, hovering near the parking area with equipment.

She inquires and asks them about what is happening. The manager comes to meet her and tells her the whole story about the Sekiyo Group buying the place.

It takes Kawai by surprise and she calls the cops. A dispute occurs and the news reaches Aoyagi, who is giving a presentation about the Temple land they have just bought and the company’s plans regarding it.

On his way to the spot, one of the employees informs him that the Legal Affairs Bureau declined their ownership transfer application for the temple land.

He rushes to the temple and is unable to digest what he sees. He realizes that the nun they had met earlier was an imposter and they have been scammed under his leadership.

His co-worker’s words reverberate in his ears who had warned him ahead of time. But nothing can be undone now.

Aoyagi starts crying helplessly and is pushed to the ground by a cop when he tries to get physical with Kawai.

Sad and broken, with heavy tears, he starts walking and is hit by a vehicle on the road. We then see Harrison standing among the crowd gathered outside the temple.

It is clear that Harrison is the person who ordered Aoyagi’s murder.

Takumi goes to meet Nagai-kun, who is already packing his bags. He brings him food as usual and while they chit-chat, they come across the news of Aoyagi’s accident.

Nagai wants to leave the country ASAP and offers Takumi a fresh fake passport but instead, Takumi asks for a favor from him.

At this point, we are not shown what he asks. I will try to put it in the questions section.

Moreover, in the next scene, the story takes a leap of a few days and we see Kuramochi in the police station.

There are murmurs afloat that the Sekiyo group didn’t file a report of the fraud case due to some internal conflicts.

Kuramochi receives a phone call and again the makers don’t reveal what and with who did she talk.

Takumi meets Orochi in the hospital and gives him money for the work he has done till now. At one point in their conversation, the youngster asks him if he can become a land swindler.

Takumi replies saying he won’t recommend it at all.

From there, he goes to meet Harrison, who has it all planned out. He is supposed to leave the town on a midnight flight.

Harrison offers him a drink but Takumi refuses.

He again appreciates his work and raises a toast to him.

Consequently, Harrison shows interest in partnering up with Takumi to reach even further heights. The latter asks if Goto and Reiko will also join them.

To this, Harrison replies saying both of them have decided to take retirement. Takumi asks what will happen to them? Will they end up like Takeshita?

Harrison tells him that a penalty of some sort is in order and then we see flashes of both the team members.

What Happens to Reiko?

She offers some financial assistance to the lady who lost her son and was supposed to be the original imposter in the temple land deal.

However, on her way back, Reiko is kidnapped by unknown men and it is implied that she is killed.

What Happens to Goto?

Goto enjoys a family dinner and discusses with his wife his plan to move out to another country. However, when he goes to the washroom, we see an armed man following him. Again, it is implied that he is killed.

With a changed mien, Takumi tells Harrison that he has been killing his associates and imposters for no reason as if they don’t mean anything.

Then he shows him the picture Kuramochi had given him. Harrison asks if he has known about it all along.

Harrison blames his father for his downfall while Takumi defends him saying it was Harrison who led him.

However, one thing is clear at this point that it was a coincidence that Harrison invited Takumi to become a land swindler.

He didn’t know about his past back then. He saw potential in him and wished to make Takumi his perfect successor.

Harrison tries to play with words. Though he doesn’t have any doubt about his intention to find the man who swindled his father, he feels it was his destiny to become one.

Furthermore, he calls him a true land swindler who finds it an ecstatic job. But Takumi has a different opinion.

He puts a gun to Harrison’s gut and says that he can never be a real land swindler.

Even with a gun pointed at him, Harrison remains cool and composed. He sits on the chair and drinks his whiskey.

Before Takumi can shoot him, Orochi enters the room and stabs him from behind. Harrison says, Orochi recently contacted him to become a swindler and he decided to test his skills.

However, in an unexpected move, Harrison grabs Takumi’s gun and shoots Orochi down, branding him as an imbecile.

He then aims the gun at Takumi and pulls the trigger. Fortunately for the latter, it is empty and hence, he survives.

Takumi grabs his leg and puts him on the ground. A combat ensues between them and nobody seems to be willing to give up.

Both intensely try to outplay one another. Eventually, Harrison gets the upper hand but the sudden arrival of Kuramochi spoils things for him.

She has the gun and so does the power to finish him. Cornered, Harrison tries one last trick.

He unpins a bomb and throws it towards Takumi, who anxiously grabs it and lashes it outside to the glass window of the flat.

A blast occurs with Kuramochi by Takumi’s side. We don’t see any dead bodies despite no signs of Harrison.

Takumi is admitted to a police hospital, and after a few days, Kuramochi goes to visit him.

While he is sleeping on the bed, her eyes fall on the newspaper through which we get to know several things.

What Happened to the Sekiyo Group? Did they Register a Complaint?

It was Takumi’s confession that led the police to expose the full details of the Sekiyo House land fraud case.

The company itself never registered an official plaint. As the news became viral, the entire country was stunned.

Nobody was able to digest the fact that such a big company could be scammed by land swindlers.

The company launched an internal investigation but it didn’t reveal much, with everyone putting the blame on Aoyagi, who was already dead.

Moreover, another investigation was done by the police department. They were able to recover the 1 billion yen paid to the broker, Abiru Holdings.

Nothing else was ever recovered.

Takumi wakes up and tells Kuramochi that she has his full cooperation. He even agrees to her plan to fully interrogate him after discharge from the Hospital.

Kuramochi asks him about how he felt while swindling people. Takumi answers that though he got more and more invested in it as time passed by, he never really felt ecstatic about the same.

In the final scene, he asks her if they have found any trace of Harrison. But they haven’t.

We then see Harrison waiting for his prey with his rifle, somewhere in the northern region mountains.

This is when Tokyo Swindlers season 1 ends.

What Favor Did Takumi Ask from Nagai-kun?

We see Takumi asking Nagai-kun for a favor towards the end of Tokyo Swindlers. What was it we are never shown.

Possibly, in my opinion, he asked him to somehow reach out to Kuramochi when he went to meet Harrison.

Did Harrison Die?

No, Harrison managed to escape the bomb blast. He is alive and so is Takumi. If there is a season 2, we might see him taking revenge on Takumi and Kuramochi.

What Happened to Goto and Reiko?

We never actually see them getting killed. All we are shown is that two unknown people try to kidnap Reiko while one guy goes after Goto with a sharp weapon while he is in a restaurant.

It is possible that they were killed. However, it is equally possible that they were injured but not dead.

It all depends on what Harrison wanted. Although they never went against him, Harrison is someone who enjoys killing people for no reason as well.

Who Wrote the Fake Letter to Aoyagi?

Aoyagi received a letter written by Kuwai, the nun, telling him to not sign the land agreement. It was written by Takeshita, who wanted Harrison to fail.

He held a grudge against him for a long time, which started to intensify lately. The idea was to send the letter and then send the real Kawai back to Tokyo so that the letter could be justified.

If Aoyagi had seen the imposter and the real Kawai together, he would have automatically understood it was a fake deal.

Is Tokyo Swindlers Based on a True Story?
