The Turkish film, A True Gentleman, might just be the movie that makes your day.

If you have watched it and are looking for a textual look at its ending, you have come to the right place.

A True Gentleman Synopsis

The movie is about a male escort who falls for the wrong girl at the wrong time, leading to an emotionally charged journey.

A True Gentleman Ending Explained

Nehir spends the night at Saygin’s place. She overhears Saygin and Kado having an argument outside.

Saygin shoots some really bad words at him while Kado gets back by saying everything Saygin has, from his car to his house, is given to him by his client (Serap).

Eventually, Kado leaves with his dog.

Fulya tells Serap about Nehir getting emotionally closer to Kado’s friend. Serap connects the dots to realize that the man Nehir is dating is none other than Saygin.

The next morning, Serap drives Fulya to her school while Saygin takes Nehir. They come face to face and Saygin feels embarrassed.

Nehir introduces him to Serap, unaware that they already know each other.

Saygin and Serap, though uncomfortable from the inside, appear to be strangers in front of the girls.

At their music class, Nehir asks Fulya why she doesn’t like Saygin. Fulya replies saying she feels Saygin is hiding something bad.

Nehir shares with her friend that she also feels something is wrong. She mentions the argument between Kado and Saygin.

Fulya thinks if the house and the car aren’t his, there might be someone else. They decide to go to his place to find answers from Saygin himself.

On the other hand, Serap follows Saygin to his house and lashes out at him for betraying her trust. Saygin says he will empty the house soon and thanks her for her friendship.

Moreover, he confesses that he is in love with Nehir, which is why he can’t stop from getting closer to her.

Serap slaps him when Saygin says he didn’t tell her earlier because of her illness. She receives a phone call from the hospital and the nurse informs that her reports have come back.

However, she doesn’t divulge any details on the call and asks her to meet the doctor in person. This makes Serap nervous.

She requests Saygin to hold her for one last time. The latter agrees and they move into his bedroom, where they cuddle in the bed.

Simultaneously, Nehir arrives at his home and goes upstairs. She is stunned to see them in bed together.

Serap tries to explain things but she doesn’t listen and breaks down. Nehir rushes out of the house in anger.

Did Nehir Tell Fulya About Saygin and Serap’s Relationship?

No, she hides it from her initially to keep her from getting heartbroken. She may have told her later but A True Gentleman doesn’t explore this aspect.

The scene cuts to Kado, who has gone to the same client once again. This time, the husband is not at home and hence, he serves the wife.

Alone at home, Saygin realizes his mistake and calls Kado. But since he doesn’t answer, he leaves a voice note apologizing to him for his behavior earlier.

An emotional Saygin mentions that he hates himself because he is a whore. Plus, he requests him to come back.

At the client’s house, Kado pleases the wife but fails to leave before the husband comes back home.

A scuffle breaks out between the two men, which soon turns violent. The husband pushes Kado down the stairs.

The already brewing anger reaches a boiling point, and Kado stabs the man to death with utter cruelty.

The next morning, Saygin wakes up in his bathtub and finds Kado sleeping on the couch. He tries to wake him up but soon discovers that his friend is dead.

A partially empty bottle of pills is lying on the floor beneath, indicating the cause of Kado’s death.

Saygin buries him in the graveyard with his dog by his side. The event leaves him emotionally charged up as he takes the shovel and smashes his car.

It is a result of the pain inside him reaching the point of saturation.

Nehir also arrives at the scene but seeing Saygin in a vulnerable condition, she retreats without meeting him.

While Saygin breaks the windshield of his car, flashbacks from the past keep playing in his head. I have described the flashbacks in the following quote boxes.

Why Saygin Hated Cigarettes?

He hated cigarettes because his mother was a chain smoker. It led to a steady deterioration in her health over a period of time.

Moreover, the movie implies that a burning cigarette led to a fire in their house, in which Saygin’s mother died.

How Did Saygin’s Mother Die?

She died in a massive fire in her house that probably was a result of a burning cigarette left unattended by her.

Saygin had gone to school when the incident happened. Kado tried to save her but failed.

The screen fades to black and the movie takes a leap of three years.

We see a well-dressed Saygin talking to his dog. As a matter of fact, he now owns a restaurant and has left behind his previous profession.

As he prepares to close the outlet, the members of a music band step foot inside. They request him to serve him despite the late timing, but Saygin calmly refuses to do so.

However, he is dumbfounded upon hearing a familiar voice call out his name. He finds Nehir sitting on the table.

They exchange greetings and play around some of their personal jokes.

She tells him that she has joined a new band. Saygin arranges dessert for them and they agree to a takeaway.

Further, he doesn’t let Saygin pay for it and says it is on him.

Before leaving, Nehir gives him a pass for her first show. He looks at the pass and notices the name of her band/album.

“Imaginary Fireworks” it is.

The movie ends here.

What Does the Ending Portray?

Well, the ending of A True Gentleman is open. It reflects the possibility of a second part.

Moreover, since Nehir and Saygin meet again after a gap of three years, their romance might be in for a second chance.

Also, what happened in the last three years can throw some surprises.

Since the name of Nehir’s debut band/album is Imaginary Fireworks, it shows what Saygin meant to her.

How Did Kado Die?

Kado died due to an overdose. After killing his client in a fit of rage, he came back home carrying the guilt and burden of his actions.

It pushed him into taking pills, which eventually led to his death.
