Boxer (2024) Movie Ending Explained

Jedrzej decides to skip his son’s birthday party and instead spends the night at a steamy party with Eva. When he returns the next morning, Jedrzej finds his home empty.

He finds their wedding ring on the cabinet and realizes that Kasia has left with their son, Tadeusz.

However, as arrogance would have it, Jedrzej starts kicking items in the house and feels that Kasia’s absence will not impact him in any way.

He lets Eva move in with him and together, they change the entire look of the house.

For the next six months, Jedrzej does everything he shouldn’t have, from cocaine to unnecessary interviews.

His mind shifts from boxing and he stops attending his training sessions. As the championship final approaches, he makes his way to the gym and has a talk with Nicky.

Nicky reprimands him for not showing up for practice. When Jedrzej tries to put it all on the mental impact of Kasia’s absence, Nicky gets infuriated.

He says whatever goes on in his personal life doesn’t matter to him. He has invested a lot of money in him and he should behave accordingly.

Both of them have contractual obligations towards each other. The boxer must fight while Nicky provides him the support to do so.

Jedrzej says he wants to leave and asks for his share of the money that he made for Nikki by fighting. The latter opens the ledger and shows him the mirror.

He reminds him of the contract where he promised to pay back the lost money due to his antics with Rascal O’Brien.

Moreover, the villa he lives in, the coach who trains him, the Jaguar he has, the gym he trains in, clothes, hotels, exotic drinks, and the expensive shoes he bought for his son, etc., are all Nikki’s investments.

It is Jedrzej who owes him money instead. The boxer lashes out at him and says he is nothing without him. Moreover, he remains adamant about stopping to fight.

Nikki agrees but only if Jedrzej pays all the pending dues, and returns the house, the car, and whatnot.

He directs him to think it through since winning the championship is the only feasible option for him.

A helpless Jedrzej gives in.

He then goes to meet Czesiek and knocks on his door. When he doesn’t open, Jedrzej pushes the door and realizes it is already unlatched.

To his surprise, he finds Czesiek hanging in the bathroom.

Why Did Czesiek Commit Suicide in Boxer?

He was alone as Jedrzej had left him. Moreover, of late, he had started drinking too much. Combined with the emotional turmoil, he must have felt lonely and of no use to anyone.

At Czesiek’s funeral, he meets Kasia, who asks for a meeting to discuss something. But before they can talk further, Eva interrupts them.

Her presence makes Kasia feel bad and she leaves. Jedrzej lashes out at Eva for her behavior and asks her to leave his house.

Jedrzej takes a day off from training and prepares for his meeting with Kasia at his place. He cooks dinner and waits for his estranged wife.

However, when she comes, Kasia throws a surprise at him by giving him divorce papers. She wants to pack their marriage.

Again, Jedrzej gets angry. He furiously starts screaming. When Kasia starts leaving due to his behavior, he begs her to stay.

However, she has made her decision. Kasia gets into the Taxi and leaves despite the boxer’s repeated requests, which sometimes get loud.

In his World Championship fight against Roy, Jedrzej wins astoundingly. He fights like a beast and releases all the swollen anger inside him on Roy by almost beating him to death.

The scene cuts to Edwin’s grave in Poland. Jedrzej dedicates the championship belt to him and cries vehemently, probably realizing all the mistakes he has made till now.

He goes to the gym in Poland where he used to practice, where he has an unexpected visitor in Wladek.

He thanks him and Kasia for saving his life and hands over him his passport.

Why Wladek Thanked Kasia for Saving His Life?

Well, before leaving for England, Kasia had noticed Wladek’s dark circles and advised him to see a doctor.

While she was not a nurse, she was traveling on a fake identity as a nurse with the boxing contingent. And her suggestion was simply based on the instinct to lie.

But as it happened, Wladek was indeed diagnosed with cancer and since it was detected early, he was able to survive.

Apart from the passports, Wladek also gives him a tape.

What Was in the Tape?

The tape had a conversation between Konstanty and Edwin, which happened in the presence of Czesiek.

Konstanty can be heard asking Edwin to lose the Olympic final.

Edwin’s opponent was Russian and beating him would have estranged the relations between Poland and Russia, considering the political climate of that time.

Hence, Konstanty asked him to lose the match. Not only that, he also threatened to harm his family if he failed to comply with his order.

Czesiek was against it but Edwin went ahead with it for the sake of his family.

Jedrzej takes the recording to Konstanty and asks for the ownership of Czesiek’s gym in return.

If he doesn’t agree, he will take the recording to the higher ups, which will hinder Konstanty’s chances of running for the president.

His secretary tries to stop Jedrzej but the latter knocks him out with a punch.

Konstanty eventually agrees to his demand.

The movie takes a leap.

We see Jedrzej working in Czesiek’s gym and training kids. Kasia enters the gym with Tadeusz and hands him over to Jedrzej for boxing training.

The movie ends.

Did Kasia and Jedrzej Part Ways?

Yes, the couple mutually agreed to divorce. This is not explicitly shown in the film. However, one can easily assess the same.
