An American show, The Waterfront, is trending on Netflix for the past few days. It revolves around a family stepping into the drug business and creating ripples across the town.
The series is created by Kevin Williamson and stars Holt McCallany, Melissa Benoist, Jake Weary, and others.
In this blog, I will be detailing the final episode of the show while trying to dissect the ending. I will also answer some questions that you might have.
The seventh episode ends with Bree’s kidnapping after Harlan, Shawn, and Cane burn Grady’s business into smoke.
Here’s what happens in the eighth episode.
The Waterfront Series Ending Explained
After her kidnapping in the seventh episode, Bree wakes up on a boat. She finds herself inside a room and sneaks through the windows and doors to realize what has happened.
The woman manages to make a sharp weapon out of a wooden stick and decides to venture out and get away.

However, before she could proceed with her plan, Diller walks into her room, prompting her to reconsider and think about his well-being.
She asks how he ended up there. Diller says that he saw some people grabbing her at the boatyard. He followed them and climbed the bow’s tie to enter the boat.
He informs her that there are four guys on the boat, including Grady, the captain, and two others.
Bree hides Diller in the cupboard and asks him to stay put no matter what.
On the other hand, Belle wakes Harlan up and tells him that Bree didn’t come home last night. She hints at Grady’s involvement, but Harlan brushes her concerns aside before leaving for the Fish House.
Peyton returns home without Savannah. Cane unconvincingly tries to tell her how unsafe things are right now and also about Grady and his business, but she doesn’t believe him.
Instead, she asks about his whereabouts on the previous night. Cane first attempts to dodge her question, but Peyton says she has the Ring app that shows he hasn’t slept at their home for the last two nights.
Eventually, Cane gives in and truthfully answers that he slept with Jenna. She asks if he loves her, to which he replies, saying he only loves his wife.
Peyton expresses her hatred for both him and Jenna before storming out of the house. She had warned her about doing anything of this sort, and now she has to face consequences.
Cane goes to the Fish House and vents at his father about how he should have left the town a long time ago before it ruined his marriage.
The duo then discusses if Grady has taken Bree and, if he has, why he would do that. Cane ponders over the question of a ransom demand, but they are unable to get to a conclusion.
Therefore, Harlan calls Grady to find the truth, who puts all questions to rest and tells him he has indeed kidnapped Bree.
Now, he wants Harlan in exchange for his daughter. Practically, he wants to kill him for destroying his whole operation in The Waterfront Episode 7.
Their family, including Harlan, Cane, Shawn, and Belle, get into a huddle and decide their next move. Harlan wants to go alone, as asked, and save his daughter, which everyone else considers too risky.
As they hit a roadblock, Shawn suggests a possible solution: he and Cane should accompany Harlan, equipped with guns.
They plan to hide in their boat and closely monitor the unfolding events. In case things go sideways, Harlan shouldn’t be alone to handle everything.
An anguished Peyton pays a visit to Jenna and is almost about to lash out at her before the latter informs her about her dad’s passing away last night.
The news changes everything for Peyton, and empathy replaces the previously bulging anger. She hugs Jenna to comfort her in a tragic situation.
Belle calls Emmett and asks for his help in getting rid of the two bodies in the Fish House. After his men finish the job, Emmett has a reminiscing chat with the lady.
He remembers the old days of doing business with the Buckleys. Towards the end, he mentions the family’s financial situation.
Moreover, Emmett says that he knows about Wes Benson and how he cheated her on the land deal. He suggests that Belle should take the lead instead of Harlan.
Bree is taken out of the room and made to meet Grady, who tells her that while Harlan is on the way, they can enjoy food and drinks.
She sits down with him and pretends to be on his side while asking for a whole bottle of vodka (but she doesn’t drink any of it). The mood lightens, and Bree sneakily gets hold of a sharp object from the table.
The scene shifts to Jenna’s place, where Peyton makes all the arrangements for her dad’s funeral. Jenna apologizes to her for sleeping with Cane.
But a sensitive and sensible Peyton avoids the topic, considering the situation.
En route to Grady’s location, Shawn and Cane hide in a secret space on their boat while Harlan stays up.
Cane gives Shawn a gun in case of any emergency.
Bree finds the right opportunity and attacks Grady and his men. She hits one of them with a bottle and snatches his gun before shooting him in the legs.
The woman directs them to move the boat around if they don’t want the next bullet going inside their heads.

Grady panics and asks his men to follow her orders. However, one of them gets hold of Diller and brings him to the deck with a gun to his head.
The situation reverses, forcing Bree to submit. Soon, she attempts a fightback by slashing Grady with a knife, but his men overpower her.
But the knife attack irritates Grady. He grabs a gun, shoots her in the leg, and then throws her into the sea.
Diller shows exemplary presence of mind and throws a life saver to her mom struggling in the water.
Bree makes use of it, but the continuous outward flow of blood puts her on the back seat. Stranded alone in the sea, she uses her belt to cover the wounded area, but it only helps to some extent.
Harlan reaches Grady’s boat and straight out apologizes for his mistakes while also trying to emotionally manipulate him, asking him to release Bree.
But Grady informs him that he had to throw Bree overboard, and instead they have his grandson with them.
When Harlan gets angry after hearing about his daughter, Grady’s men lash him with punches.
Meanwhile, Cane and Shawn jump to Grady’s ship and search its inner premises.
Grady’s men nearly inflict fatal wounds on Harlan, but Cane and Shawn intervene by pointing their guns at Grady. They ask him and his men to drop their guns, which the latter do.
Soon, a confrontation begins, resulting in the deaths of all of Grady’s men. When only he is left, Cane and Harlan wind him up in a corner of the deck.
Cane is slightly nervous to shoot him, and Grady tries to manipulate him. While Grady is blabbering and calling him a useless son in front of Harlan, Cane shoots him twice, causing his face to burst apart and Grady’s body to tumble into the sea.
An unconscious Bree imagines her older self meeting her younger version and ridding her of the guilt of not being able to save her grandfather.
She then wakes up and fires the glitter gun into the sky to signal her whereabouts to nearby people. Harlan and others find her and take her to the hospital.
Belle also reaches the hospital and has a chat with Harlan, who then pats Cane, who is feeling awful for killing Grady.
Harlan also appreciates Shawn’s efforts regarding the recent events.
Drew, the cop, informs Harlan that the boat has been cleaned and there is nothing that can trace back to the Buckleys.
Bree’s surgery goes well, and she comes out of danger.
In a sweet, emotional chat, Harlan tells Cane that Buckley Seafood was always a family business. Just like he worked with his father, he wanted Cane to work with him, which is why he never wanted him to leave the town.
When Diller meets her mom, she appreciates and thanks him for throwing the life box.
Cane then leaves for Jenna’s house to offer his condolences. She tells him about how kind Peyton was to her throughout the day.
Moreover, she distances herself from him romantically, asserting that she is merely a temporary solution for him, and the only individual capable of saving him is Cane himself.
Jenna says goodbye to him and asks him never to return to her house again. Back home, Cane and Peyton patch up as he informs her that everything between him and Jenna is over.
This whole setup, including Peyton’s boiling anger coming down after hearing about Jenna’s father’s demise, tells us how kindness always triumphs.
Had she been hard on Jenna, maybe it would have led to more hostility between her and Cane. Also, Jenna may not have realized that they did wrong to Peyton.
Emmett calls Belle and tells her that his father is ready for the land deal on one condition: she has to take over the business from Harlan.
She decides to communicate it to Harlan, but when she goes to see him, their conversation takes a romantic turn, making the situation unsuitable for professional talks.
Belle then goes to the Fish House, where Emmett is waiting for him. He has captured Wes at her request, who is kept tied to a chair with his men pounding his face.

Now, Wes Benson is ready to do anything for his new boss, Belle Buckley.
The Waterfront concludes with Belle emerging as the new business leader. However, Harlan is still unaware of the deal Belle made with Emmett, which could cause him deep anguish.
Although it is because of her arrangement that his beloved land will be his again.
