Directed by Tom Kingsley, Deep Cover recently premiered on Amazon Prime Video. It features Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nick Mohammed in lead roles.

This blog will explain what happens in the final half an hour of this action-comedy film.

Deep Cover Ending Explained

Assigned to dispose of Billings’ body, Hugh and Marlon chop it into pieces before stuffing them in three large plastic bags. They decide to travel on rented bikes, each person carrying one bag.

However, the cops, Dawes and Beverley, spot them and a chase begins. They somehow manage to escape but fail to reach the disposal location, as communicated by Shosh.

Kat suggests they should go to Harriet’s place and steal her car. The others agree, and they reach her house.

Though she wants to go in alone, Marlon (always in an improv mood) follows her inside. Earlier, Harriet had invited Kat to a regular friends’ dinner at her place, but she had not committed to it.

Therefore, when Harriet sees Kat at the door, she is surprised.

Soon, Kat finds out that it is not a dinner but a collective effort by her friends and family to take steps towards ending her fake drug addiction.

They have got her parents on a video call and have even brought a Psychotherapist. Kat takes the podium and speaks with all of them while Marlon tries to find the car key.

Since he needs everybody’s attention to be at Kat, he signals her to pull out an improv act. Therefore, Kat acts as if she is a drug addict in reality and apologizes to everyone.

Meanwhile, Marlon succeeds in finding the key and the duo leaves the place with Kat promising to go to rehab.

Hugh, stationed outside all this while with the bags carrying the cop’s remains, is met by a stranger with a pet dog.

The dog sniffs something fishy and starts barking before attempting to eat the flesh. Hugh manages to avoid them somehow.

When Kat and Marlon arrive with the key, he quickly gets in the trunk of the car with the bags. They meet Shosh at the desired place and dump the body.

While Kat plans how to return the car, Shosh sets it on fire, as it carries their prints and other evidence, surprising the trio.

On their way back, Shosh tells them that the cop’s phone is at the electronics shop for data recovery. She drops Kat and Marlon at the place of their choosing while inviting Hugh over to her place.

At the shop, Kat acts as if Metcalfe has sent her and asks for the cop’s phone. She pretends to call him to show her genuineness.

The shop attendant agrees and tells her the phone is upstairs. Marlon stays downstairs.

Though Kat has found out where the phone is, she doesn’t know what the phone looks like, and finding it among a huge pile of organized equipment is not easy.

She starts turning the whole place upside down. On the other hand, Marlon brags about being a soldier who fought in Afghanistan in front of the shop owner/shopkeeper.

But his bluff is caught when the TVs inside the store play a random ad featuring Marlon from his early acting days.

Shosh and Hugh make out at her home, but just before the action reaches the bed, her phone rings.

In the next scene, the trio of Hugh, Kat, and Marlon is produced before Metcalfe with their hands tied.

Their desperate attempt to find the phone at the shop forced the shop manager to call Metcalfe, who then connected the dots to realize that they were the rats.

Well, why didn’t Kat directly ask for the phone from the shopkeeper instead of finding it on her own? A forced plot twist?

Metcalfe scolds Fly for bringing the trio into his gang. Furthermore, he informs Fly that the deal with the Albanians is back on the table and is scheduled to take place the following day.

Lastly, he orders him to kill the three rats before the deal.

Fly follows his command and takes them to an unknown location, where Shosh digs their grave as he prepares to shoot them.

He tells them he cannot do anything since Metcalfe wants them dead. Fly then takes them to their graves and aims the gun at their heads.

All three close their eyes, but eventually, Fly fires only empty shots. He doesn’t kill them.

Why Didn’t Fly Kill Kat, Hugh, and Marlon?

Fly may be a bad guy, but he wasn’t a villain. Even he was fed up with Metcalfe’s actions of crime and killings.

Additionally, Fly had spent a considerable amount of time with the three and had developed a soft spot for them.

Killing three such people with whom he had formed a strong bond was not right, according to him.

Fly unties the three and tells them to leave to some faraway place or else Metcalfe will kill all of them, including Fly.

The trio runs and reaches the train station. While they are discussing their next individual destinations, the police, led by Dawes, barge into the station and arrest them.

Dawes and Beverley receive a heroic welcome at the police station as they bring three supposedly huge criminals.

Soon after interrogation, Dawes discovers their real identity through internet articles and videos about their acting performances.

Now, Dawes is stuck. He had told his seniors that he was going to bring in three dangerous criminals, which obviously didn’t happen.

Therefore, he gives them one chance. He tells them to go back and blend again with Metcalfe’s crew, wearing a wire.

If they can get him on tape discussing his deal with the Albanians, Dawes will consider releasing them.

Marlon tells him that their cover is blown and they will be walking straight into hell. But Kat shares an alternate plan to make it happen.

She says Fly can be their asset as he also wants to get out of the game and is looking for a way out. Moreover, he believes that the three of them are undercover police officers.

Dawes agrees, and they also get Fly onboard.

The cops oversee the exchange during the night through strategically placed cameras. The Albanians hand over the drugs to Fly and ask him to taste them.

Once approved, they nudge Metcalfe about the other part of their deal. He agrees and offers Fly to them.

It creates ripples among Marlon, Kat, and Hugh. They request that the cops intervene, but they don’t.

Why did the Albanians want to kill Fly?

The Albanians wanted to kill Fly because not only had he stolen their cocaine earlier, but he had also sold the same cocaine back to them, thanks to the trio.

When the cops emphasize that all they want is the deal to be on tape and they are not concerned whether Fly lives or not, the trio sets out on its own.

Kat says they need to improvise being cops. They raid the exchange and ask everybody to step down. Skender, the Albanian leader, holds a gun to Fly’s head.

Throughout the raid, the trio continuously improvises lines and refers to their fake past missions as cops.

Even Hugh joins the party and delivers stupendously for the first time ever. He asks Metcalfe to hand over Fly since he is vital for catching other criminals.

Plus, if he pays them well, they won’t intervene in their ongoing exchange. Hugh mentions snipers ogling over their heads to instill fear among the criminals.

Skender follows his advice and hands them Fly. Kat asks them about the details of the deal, and Metcalfe, while trying to brush her aside, mentions the real sale and amount in front of everyone.

And that’s what the cops wanted. Dawes quickly instructs all the units to move in and take control.

Metcalfe and the others sense something fishy, but before they can act, Marlon throws a fake bomb, which releases fireworks in the sky, followed by a large amount of smoke, helping them escape.

The cops come in as they hide, and a gunfight ensues. Metcalfe shoots Fly out of nowhere. In retaliation, Shosh shoots him from behind.

Fly survives thanks to his bulletproof jacket. Kat tells Shosh that they have got Fly immunity, but they cannot promise her the same.

Hugh suggests that she should leave as soon as possible, and they won’t mention anything about her to the cops.

She takes some money from Metcalfe’s suitcase and runs after an expression of love towards Hugh.

The trio tells Fly that they are not cops but improv comedians. When he hears this, Fly gives them money from the suitcase since he thinks improv comedians don’t earn much.

Later, things settle, and both the cops, Dawes and Beverley, are promoted to a higher rank for busting a drug exchange.

At the end of the Deep Cover film, Marlon, Kat, and Hugh go their own ways.

Marlon gets selected for an acting role. Kat resumes her improv classes with people there now respecting her more.

The news that she worked undercover for the police comes out in the open, and everybody praises her for it.

Hugh starts his wine shop.
