The latest film to land on Prime Video, Heads of State, stars some popular names, including Priyanka Chopra Jonas, John Cena, and Idris Elba.
I am not here to review it. This blog will delve into certain aspects and also the ending of Heads of State.
However, since the film is primarily action-driven in its final phase, I will highlight key plot details and include them here.
Who Was Behind the Attack on Will Derringer and Sam Clarke?
The attack on Derringer and Clarke was orchestrated by Viktor Gradov, a Russian-born black market arms dealer turned extremist.
He was building a nuke, and, therefore, the CIA, with the help of a NATO task force, destroyed his manufacturing plant.
His son was a brilliant scientist. He was on the verge of onlineing the first ever nuclear reactor incapable of melting down, i.e., the Pebble-bed technology.
The only thing he needed was enriched Plutonium, which Gradov procured from the Black Market. Echelon, a global surveillance program, picked up this transaction.

The British government and the NATO countries assumed that the Plutonium was for building a weapon, which was not the case in reality.
The CIA blew up the facility where Gradov’s son was building his new tech, thinking that a nuclear weapon was being built there.
He died, and Gradov saw his life burning up in smoke. He wanted revenge, and hence, he planned to finish Derringer and Sam Clarke.
What Purpose Would Killing Derringer and Sam Clarke Serve for Viktor Gradov?
Although Gradov sought revenge, he had a solid reason to finish the two popular leaders.
Clarke was the British Prime Minister, and it was the CIA that carried out the operation in which Gradov’s son was killed.
Moreover, killing Derringer, the US President, would give a jolt to not just people across the world but also to the leaders of NATO, of which the US was a prominent member.
It gave him the opportunity to manipulate world leaders against one another, which eventually led them to consider dismantling NATO.
Why Did Viktor Gradov Want to End NATO?
He wanted to dismantle NATO to take revenge for his son’s death. NATO had approved the mission to attack the facility where he was using Plutonium to build Pebble Bed Technology.
Why Did Kirk Betray Derringer?
Kirk had nothing to do with Viktor Gradov. It was just that their final goal was the same. Both wanted to end NATO.
While Viktor’s reason was revenge, Kirk possibly wanted to do it because she was a hyper nationalist. She saw NATO as an alliance that was tilted against the US.
Kirk felt that the other member countries were looting America in the name of funding. Further, thousands of American soldiers sacrifice their lives fighting wars for member countries.
What Happens at the End of Heads of State?
The last 30-40 minutes of the Amazon film are dedicated to pure action, including car chases, one-on-one fights, and arson.
The outcome in such plots is highly predictable, with the protagonists typically emerging victorious.

The same happens in Heads of State. Noel Bisset, Will Deringer, and Sam Clarke survive with minor injuries in the end.
Deringer and Clarke continue to lead their respective countries while Noel goes on another undercover operation.
Her relationship with Clarke blossoms, and they get back together.
If you’re wondering who dies in Heads of State, I’m here to help. Among the main characters, Kirk and Viktor Gradov die in the film.
Agent Marty Comer survives the attack at the safehouse and is alive and kicking.
