Parasyte: The Grey: Episode 3 Recap
The third episode begins with Choi Jun-kyung’s back story depicting the incident when her husband was converted into a parasite.
How Did Jun-kyung’s Husband Become a Parasite?
The couple had gone to a supermarket and while coming back from shopping, at the parking lot, Jun-kyung realized that she had forgotten the parking receipt.
She went back inside the store to get hold of the same. When her husband shut the trunk of the car, he saw a larva sitting on its roof.
Before he could react, it made its way into his body. What followed wreaked havoc in the shopping center.
A blow from the parasite led Jun-kyung to lose her right ear. She used her magnificent agility to lock him inside a room, which led to him being sedated at a later stage.
Kang-woo and Su-in decide to inform Chul-min of the Saejin Church incident (2nd episode) since the girl trusts him a lot.
Moreover, Kang-woo wants it to come to light as his younger sis was killed by the parasites while the elder one was taken into control.
They call the detective and inform the incident to him as unknown people.
Kang-woo mentions important details about the parasites that force Chul-min to believe the tip-off.
After doing due diligence with Won-seok, his colleague, he goes to Team Grey’s captain, Choi Jun-kyung.

Their conversation begins with the captain asking him about Su-in and X’s case, which she had discovered in the second episode.
However, Chul-min tells her that he has already checked with the girl’s hair strands and she is not a parasite.
He then narrates the tip-off received from the unknown caller. While they talk, one of her associates comes up with the poster of the parasite’s congregation at the church, confirming the tip-off was genuine.
All the cops reach the location anticipating a clash with the parasites. However, they don’t find any movement at the church.
In the pantry, they discover several dismantled body parts, which confirms the presence of the creatures earlier on.
Chul-min comes across the keychain he had gifted Su-in inside the Church premises and secretly keeps it with himself.
However, Jun-kyung sees him put something in his pocket and asks him if he has found any evidence, but he answers in the negative.
The cops return to their base and discuss the findings from the operation with a seed of suspicion in the captain’s mind.
An officer briefs everybody and tells them that it will take time to examine the mutilated bodies found in the pantry.
He says that the church is owned by Kwon Hyuk-ju, the pastor, who is leading the parasite organization.
He reveals the following details about the pastor:
Who is Kwon Hyuk-ju?
He is a pastor and the founder of the Saejin Church. His wife disappeared a few days ago. Moreover, he himself has not been seen for quite some time.
Jun-kyung suspects that one of the two changed into a parasite and ate the other.
She directs the officers to look for the pastor and find him as soon as possible while keeping an attentive eye on Chul-min.
Won-seok voluntarily takes it upon himself to dig deep into the pastor.
Next, we see him going to an isolated place and meeting Kwon Hyuk-ju (the pastor) and other parasites, meaning he is hand in glove with the Parasites.
However, it is not clear if Won-seok is himself a monster or not.
In my opinion, he is a human who is helping the parasites on some condition because parasitic enzymes were not found inside his body on the day of screening at the police station.
Nevertheless, the pastor thanks him for helping in the escape. It means Won-seok informed him in advance of the cops’ arrival at the church.
He tells them a young man had tipped off the police. Kyung-hee quickly assumes him to be her younger brother, Kang-woo. She also ascertains one of their kins must have killed The Strange Man.
Hyuk-ju assigns him the responsibility of killing The Hunting Dog. He gives him a special weapon, a blade similar to their tentacles.
Chul-min calls Su-in and requests her for a meeting. She in turn asks for some time and then, after discussing it with Kang-woo, decides to meet him at the Changseong Amusement Park.
Seeing him hurriedly exit the station, a suspicious Jun-kyung puts a cop on his tail.
At the amusement park, Chul-min tells Su-in that he has found her keychain at the church and asks if she is in danger.
When Jun-kyung reaches the place, The Hunting Dog signals to her the presence of kin. She is informed by the team that backup would come in ten minutes.
So, the captain decides to go in alone.
Just like The Hunting Dog, Su-in also receives a brain wave, indicating the presence of a parasite nearby.
She senses that they are in danger and hence decides to leave the place.
However, a concerned Chul-min keeps prompting her for answers regarding her safety.
He gets in a brawl with Kang-woo when the latter tries to forcefully take the girl away.
While they are at it, Jun-kyung aims her gun at Su-in but Kang-woo foils her attempt.
The duo goes running further inside the park and the captain doesn’t waste time before chasing them.
The parasite version of Su-in gets activated and directs Kang-woo to leave as she can handle Jun-kyung alone.
He agrees and decides to meet her outside later on. Soon, the amusement park witnesses the arrival of an army of cops.
Won-seok, having received the intimation of dispatch earlier on, also reaches the park.
But he doesn’t go inside and instead focuses his attention on The Hunting Dog, sitting inside the captain’s vehicle.

He takes out the special weapon and proceeds to finish him but the task at hand is not easy. It requires several stabs to kill a parasite wearing so much of protective gear.
Su-in, on the other hand, comfortably puts Jun-kyung on the ground but the cop influx hampers her plan of getting away.
The Hunting Dog presses the red button on the remote to send a signal to the captain, who wastes no time in reaching him.
Kang-woo witnesses Won-seok murdering The Hunting Dog from the bushes.
Su-in is surrounded by the troops from all ends and has nowhere to go. This is when the Parasite exits and the girl goes unconscious.
Chul-min arrives at the scene and emotionally grabs her despite warnings from the security personnel.
He keeps calling her a normal girl and denies her being a parasite.
Jun-kyun is ferocious upon seeing The Hunting Dog, who was also her husband, dead on the ground.
She takes out his helmet, exposing us to his pale face, and angrily goes back inside the park, where Chul-min is adamant about not leaving the girl alone.
Wang-koo waits for Su-in in the Jungle but decides to leave eventually.
Seeing the captain arrive, the personnel force Chul-min away from the girl.
At the end of the third episode of Parasyte: The Grey, we see Jun-kyun putting the helmet on Su-in’s head, making her the ‘New Hunting Dog.’
