Now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Khauf is a horror series with eight episodes. It features some fresh faces and mostly underrated actors of Indian cinema.
The show is directed by Pankaj Kumar and Surya Balakrishnan. This blog will detail several aspects of the story that you might be looking for or find interesting.
It will be beneficial if another season of Khauf emerges in the next year or two.
Before I begin, let me explain what transpired in the seventh episode, which provided insight into Jeeva’s horrific demise. It will be followed by a detailed recap of the final episode and some other questions.
How Did Jeeva Die in Khauf Series? Khauf Episode 7 Recap
The seventh episode of Khauf was the most important one. It featured a flashback, detailing what had actually transpired on New Year’s Eve.
It revealed that Jeeva had previously received the task of painting the hostel’s corridors.

During a random interaction with him, the women discovered that he was the guy who used to point laser light at them while they entered the hostel at night.
They confronted him about it, and Reema even slapped him. The argument peaked when Jeeva began hurling dirty abuses at the women.
Although he was the culprit, the incident ignited a fire of vengeance in Jeeva.
Come the night of New Year’s Eve, Jeeva decided to take revenge for his disrespect. Anu’s landlord forcibly evicted the women, ruining their plans for a party.
To add to the misery, she discovered that her boyfriend had gotten engaged to someone else, leading to their breakup. She was the last one to enter the hostel that night.
While walking through the narrow alley, a drunk Jeeva teased her with the laser light and provoked her with an abusive sentence.
Anu was already angry, and hence, she responded with aggression, eventually challenging him to come inside if he had the guts.
Jeeva saw this as an opportunity, and, with alcohol already messing with his system, he went ahead and entered the hostel, going straight to the terrace where the girls were having a bonfire.
His first action was to grab Anu and kiss her forcefully on the lips.
She resisted, and a fight ensued. Jeeva continuously threw abuses at them, calling them prostitutes, whores, and whatnot.
The girls cried for help, but no one came. No guard was there, and most of the hostel’s residents had gone to party outside.
In this scenario, they had to fight him alone.
When Jeeva unleashed violence on the women, and hit them unapologetically, Nikki found a rod and started beating him.
The women finally got ahold of him and put him on the ground. Reema went to bring the guard, but while she was on her way, Jeeva landed a nasty comment.
He announced that someday in the future, when the women leave the hostel, he will find them and insert a rod inside them, referring to the 2012 Delhi Gangrape case.
This infuriated Reema, and instead of going to the guard, she took a burning torch/stick and hit Jeeva with it, setting him on fire.
The girls then attempted to extinguish the fire with blankets, but the damage had already occurred. Already panicked, they heard the warden’s horn, adding to their stress.
Gracie was accompanied by Ilu Mishra when she entered the hostel. The drunk duo saw smoke on the terrace and went ahead to inquire.
The girls dragged Jeeva’s body into Anu’s room while Reema took charge of talking to Gracie and Ilu.
The warden sensed that they were hiding something and insisted on entering Anu’s room. Short of options, the girls hid Jeeva in the trunk but soon realized he was not dead as he tried to push the trunk’s cover to come out.
Gracie was almost inside, and, out of fear, Anu forcefully sat on the trunk, leading to Jeeva’s death.
Later in the night, when they got the chance, the women dumped the body in a nearby river.
Khauf Episode 8 Ending Explained
The final episode continues with the flashback and begins with the scene of Anu preparing to leave the hostel.
Svetlana tries to convince her to stay back, but Anu is adamant about leaving. This comes after months of mental torture she endured at the hands of Jeeva’s spirit.
Both bid each other a goodbye, and Gracie drives Anu to the station. While on the way in the middle of the night, the car’s trunk opens by itself and her luggage falls onto the road.
Gracie walks out of the car to retrieve the same, leaving Anu alone. Already feeling frightened, Anu suddenly sees Jeevan’s ghost sitting on the backseat and runs out of the car.

The visibly disturbed girl begins screaming as she runs towards the main road. Gracie tries to call her out, but to no avail.
Anu believes that Jeeva’s ghost is pursuing her, so in an attempt to escape, she unintentionally jumps in front of a speeding truck, resulting in her death.
The intro montage plays out, followed by events of the present time, putting an end to the flashback.
As heavy rain lashes Delhi, Arun can’t sleep, thinking about the murders in the forest. Madhu is fast asleep beside him.
He gets off the bed and lights a candle when the electricity dozes off. Suddenly, he sees Madhu standing at the room’s door.
He goes near her and tries to talk to her. However, she is no longer Madhu. Jeeva’s soul has taken over her.
The ghost mocks Arun, calling him a coward for not saving Madhu when she was assaulted. Unaware of what is really going on, an angry Arun holds Madhu aggressively.
However, he soon realizes that something is wrong and tries to calm her down. Arun hugs his girlfriend and says that he will take her to Doctor Shohini.
Instead, the ghost wants to go to the hostel to the remaining three girls who have kept him there.
The scene cuts to the happenings outside the hospital. With rain pelting down and an eviction notice looming over the hostel, most of the girls leave.
One of the nurses stays back to look after Reema, who is near her delivery timeline. Gracie makes emergency arrangements for the hostel with the help of assistants.
They move papers and files to safe shelters, but soon the power goes off. Reema, Svetlana, and Komal resolve to exit the hostel via the rear entrance, regardless of the circumstances.
Svetlana takes the lead and hesitantly yet courageously begins her journey to the outer world.
However, before she can go much further, Reema’s water breaks. Svetlana comes rushing back, and together with Komal and Gracie, they bring Reema to her room.
They prepare the room for delivery as the nurse joins them in their pursuit. Gracie tries to get an ambulance, but none of them are available due to rain.
On the other hand, the nurse goes out of the room to fetch some medical supplies, but she comes across a possessed Madhu in the corridor.
She attacks the nurse and leaves her injured. The noise reaches the girls’ room, and Svetlana decides to go out and check.

As soon as Madhu notices her, the spirit comes after Svetlana and chases her with full might. The woman screams and tells her friends to shut the door, putting herself at risk.
Madhu eventually gets hold of her and drags her on the floor while verbally abusing her. Svetlana continues screaming, and the hostel workers reach the floor.
They try to get Madhu under control but fail. She wreaks havoc before Svetlana finally brings things to a calm by smashing her head with a fire extinguisher.
Everybody comes together to tie Madhu to the bed inside her hostel room. Gracie dials Doctor Shohini, but she doesn’t answer.
Then they send an injured Sarla in a car to the hospital. Svetlana calls the Hakim and informs him about the situation.
He tells her to feed her the whole bottle of poison. Further, when Jeeva completely takes over Madhu’s body, the Hakim will come and take her away.
Lana follows his advice and gives Madhu the poison. Following this, we witness imaginative depictions of Madhu’s inner self, where Jeeva’s soul engages with her.
It tells her that it has seen her dreams and her thought process. It knows what Madhu wants. She wants to kill the perpetrators of her rape.
Further, the soul promises her that if she allows it to stay inside her without any resistance and comes along, it will help her in taking revenge.
Meanwhile, Komal and Svetlana successfully deliver Reema’s baby girl. Ilu Mishra also reaches the hostel, accompanied by the Hakim.
She confronts Gracie while Hakim stays inside the car. Mishra asks her about Jeeva working at the hospital on her behalf.
Attempting to make connections, she concludes that he must have encountered the girls during that period.
Further, Ilu accuses Gracie of knowing that the girls had killed Jeeva, which is why she gave them her car to dump his body in the river.
However, Gracie denies the same. Gracie reminds Ilu that they were together that night. But Ilu says she made her drink on New Year’s Eve so that she forgets everything.
Gracie remains adamant on her claim that she knew nothing about Jeeva’s death. She only knew that Jeeva used to tease girls near the back of the hostel.
She had never imagined things would come this far. At this point, Ilu Mishra makes a comment that these girls fail to raise their voice when their father, boss, or other people come at them, but they had a problem with her son teasing them.
She promises that all of them will have to pay for their sins. Ilu then goes upstairs and slaps Svetlana, telling her that they will die soon.
She goes into Madhu’s room and tries to talk to her dead son. She begs him to listen to her and leave Madhu’s body, but her pleas are in vain.
Hakim steps out of the car and ventures inside the hostel. Gracie finds him inside and starts hitting him. She abhors him because he is a criminal.
The two fight it out and eventually fall through the stairwell to the ground floor. While Gracie hits her head and dies, the Hakim survives the fall and takes the stairs again.
Jeeva’s soul continues manipulating Madhu from inside, telling him that everything in the forest was its doing.
Moreover, it also tells her how it injured Arun back at his flat.
Madhu continues to resent it. In the end, Jeeva leaves her body in agony in the form of a dark current that destroys the hostel’s walls.
The soul comes across the injured Hakim on the stairs and enters his body. Madhu wakes up in a battered state and finds Ilu Mishra dead inside the room.

She steps outside, hearing the cries of the baby, and goes to Reema’s room. Lana, thinking that it is Jeeva, pulls out a knife and chases Madhu.
The latter cries and begs for her life, telling Lana that Jeeva is no longer inside her body and that she will leave and never come back to the hostel.
Eventually, Lana spares her, but as they prepare to leave, the Hakim enters the floor. He abuses Lana and tells her to go back, indicating that Jeeva’s spirit was controlling him.
However, he doesn’t harm Madhu and directly goes to Reema’s room, where Svetlana, Komal, Reema, and her daughter are present.
He breaks open the door. While the girls try to fight him, his extreme power pushes them to the brink.
Madhu grabs a shovel/axe and tries to attack him from behind, but the Hakim foils her attempt.
He then goes ahead to harm Reema and her daughter, but before he can, Madhu quietly comes from behind and slashes his head, which falls on the ground, leaving blood spilling out of his headless neck.
Things come to a calm, and the scene cuts to the next morning. The girls are taken to the hospital for medical help in an ambulance while Dr. Shohini tells the cops that last night’s attack was done by the Hakim, who was a serial killer.
She keeps the talks about Jeeva’s spirit away from them.
Khauf takes a one-month leap, and we see Reema, her kids, Svetlana, and Komal enjoying an outing in a park.
On the other hand, a sorrowful Madhu sits beside an unconscious Arun in a hospital room. Then the visuals shift to Nakul’s wedding day.
He starts having hallucinations midway and sees Madhu every now and then. During police questioning, Nakul avoids mentioning her and leaves angrily when Bela tries to call her a stalker.
Later, when he is in his room, he imagines a bloodthirsty Madhu coming at him and accidentally jumps off the balcony to his death.
In the final scene of Khauf, we see Madhu looking deviously at the camera in a pretentious attempt to tell viewers that she is still possessed.
Why did Jeeva’s Soul Not Let the Girls Leave the Hostel?
Jeeva was an evil man when he was alive. The girls in the hospital killed him when he attempted to assault them on New Year’s Eve.
His evil spirit returned to haunt the girls, never allowing them to leave the hospital, as it desired to turn the hostel, which they regarded as home, into a prison for them.
Moreover, it was easier for the ghost to keep them under surveillance if they lived together under the same roof.
Why did the Hakim want Madhu’s body in Khauf?
Hakim was an experienced man. He may have been an offender, but he knew a lot about herbs and medicines.
He also had expertise in controlling spirits and making use of their souls. He knew that he was unwell, weak, and almost on the verge of his death.
Therefore, he had to extend his life, which could only be done by using someone else’s remaining life. This, he did by using young women.
He would take blood out of their bodies and mix it with herbs to make a medicine for himself. Then, he would use occult methods to allegedly capture their soul while they were in a state between life and death.
When none of the women he had killed could bring the desired results, he went on the lookout for someone who was weak yet powerful.
The hostel’s case gave him a way. When he checked out the room for the first time, he knew there was a vengeful spirit in there.
Since Madhu was the occupant of the room, she became the perfect victim for him. He promised the other girls freedom in return for a possessed Madhu, giving them poison to feed her.
The poison would make Madhu hallucinate and imagine things. It would make her internally weak, further attracting the spirit of Jeeva.
Once Jeeva was in her body, Hakim would use his methods to acquire Jeeva’s soul via Madhu. It would give him the strength required to prolong his life.
How did Ilu Mishra Know the Reason Behind Her Son’s Death?
Just like so many other things, Khauf also doesn’t reveal how Ilu Mishra knew the reason behind her son’s death.
I only have a theory. Ilu knew that Jeeva’s phone was last located at the ladies hostel. After this, she went to the hakim and asked him for help in talking to her son’s soul for one last time.
The next visual we see of Ilu Mishra in Khauf is her entry into Gracie’s office. There are two possible outcomes to consider:
First, the hakim used his satanic powers to talk to Jeeva’s soul and told Ilu about his death.
Second, since Ilu Mishra was a cop, it is highly possible that she connected the events of New Year’s Eve.
Everything she may have forgotten due to alcohol came back to her brain cells, and she cracked it all on her own.
This is unlikely to happen since she could only remember what she had actually seen. And Mishra never saw what actually transpired that night in totality.
Will there be Khauf Season 2 on Prime Video?
Well, there hasn’t been an official announcement. But going by the ending, the makers have kept the possibility of a sequel open. They will probably make a decision based on the response they get for Khauf season 1.
If Madhu is still possessed, it can cause trouble for Svetlana, Reema, and Komal. Alternatively, the Women’s Hostel might somehow connect to an entirely different storyline.
Who Killed Nakul in Khauf?
Nakul was killed by his own guilt and fear. He knew he was guilty. Furthermore, he was aware that it was Madhu who had killed his friends in the forest, which gave rise to fear in him.
All of it made him hallucinate and imagine things that were not there. When he saw Madhu coming at him in the hotel room, he instinctively walked backwards and accidentally fell off the balcony.
In reality, Madhu was not there.
