Another Self, a Turkish series, is back with its second season on Netflix. Here is an explanation of its ending combined with some questions related to the plot at the end.

Another Self Season 2 Ending Explained and Episode 8 Recap

The final episode starts with the flashback of Ada’s first meeting with Sevgi and Leyla back during their childhood.

Ada’s First Meeting with Sevgi and Leyla

Sevgi is in her hostel room when her warden brings a new girl (Ada) as her roommate, forgetting that she already has a roommate in Leyla.

Though she promises to rectify her mistake, Leyla and Sevgi quickly form a bond with the new girl and they become friends for life.

The title montage plays out and we are back to the present time.

The three friends are sitting at one of Leyla’s restaurant’s tables. Leyla and Ada are in disbelief about Sevgi keeping her health issues from them.

Fiko comes to the table and sees them crying. But Leyla tells him that they are crying because of the broken pipe inside the restaurant.

Ada asks Fiko whether it would be okay if the girls crashed at her place tonight. He agrees.

At Ada’s house, Sevgi tells her friends that she is not planning for treatment. She wants to spend some quality time with her loved ones.

Moreover, there is a lot of pending stuff she must do before dying.

Ada snatches Sevgi’s diary from her hands. It contains her bucket list.

Leyla gets emotional when she finds out that Erdem’s freedom is one of the points on her list.

They ask Sevgi which of her wishes she wants to fulfill first. The latter replies with the task of finding her father’s grave.

She adds a rider that it is going to be hard.

The trio spends the next day finding Sevgi’s father’s village. All they have is his photograph with his village in the background.

The internet doesn’t have any records. And almost every option they try fails them.

However, Leyla accidentally notices something on the back of the photograph. It has hidden writing that becomes visible when she rubs a pencil over it.

And bang! The writing reveals the place and date when the photograph was taken. The village is called Kayalik and the picture was taken way back in 1977.

Consequently, the trio sets out on a road trip to Kayalik. Soon, the journey becomes arduous for them since the location has no place on the digital map.

Somehow, they manage to find the village and Sevgi pays her respect to her dad’s grave. While she speaks emotionally to his soul, an old man arrives and asks her name.

When she tells him that she is Aram’s daughter, he gets emotional. In response, the old man introduces himself as Yeram, Aram’s father.

Yeram takes the girls to his house and tells his granddaughter about her dad.

Who Was Aram?

Aram was Sevgi’s father. He was the only son of his parents. His father, Yeram, was a Goldsmith. He would sell jewelry in Istanbul, where Yeram was studying academia.

When he fell in love with Mukadder, Sevgi’s mother, she was pregnant. The couple was happy and so was Yeram and his wife.

They planned a grand wedding. However, dreams came crashing down when Aram was murdered during a robbery at the jewelry shop, he used to work at.

The robbery was a result of political unrest between the left and the right.

After Aram’s murder, Mukadder disappeared and never met her in-laws. Yeram hands over a gift to Sevgi for her mother.

During their conversation, Yeram notices Sevgi’s eyes and learns that she is unwell. Consequently, he prepares a special potion for her to treat her cancer.

Yeram uses a drop of her blood, her saliva, and several herbs as ingredients.

In the night, when the three friends lay down together, Sevgi reminds them of their bucket list.

She says, Ada wanted to become a doctor and find a cure for cancer after her father died of it.

Leyla wanted to be a singer and Sevgi herself wanted to be a lawyer.

They express gratitude for sustaining their friendship for 24 years.

Sevgi further asks them to take care of any unfinished business once they reach Ayvalik.

The next morning, while they get ready to leave, Yeram gives the potion to Sevgi and asks her to take a spoonful of it before eating every day.

He inspires her to believe in a cure and says nature can heal everything.

The plumber tells Fiko that the water leak is impossible to avoid. He suggests scraping the wall.

Back home, Ada finishes her paper, Sevgi gives Yeram’s gift to her mother, and Leyla bonds with Erdem and makes love to him.

Ada discovers an old letter from her father, in which he mentions Deniz and says maybe, she will meet Ada one day and will get to be the big sister.

Who is Deniz Korkmaz?

I don’t exactly remember what happened in the previous season, but Ada probably had a father who married twice and left one of his wives. Deniz could be his first daughter.

The next day, Ada goes to meet Diyar and says she feels familiar with her as both of them understand the pain of their fathers being distant.

She suggests that he end the war with his dad. This emotional feeling arrives from the fact that Ada couldn’t forgive her own father and she did, it was already too late.

She doesn’t want Diyar to go through the same fate.

Next, Ada meets Zaman at his place and gives him the first draft of her paper. However, he says he is busy and will read it later.

She sits down and asks him to pick a piece from his set. He does so and says he feels infinite darkness upon inspecting it.

Ada then asks him to pick a piece for that darkness. Just as he puts another piece on the table, it falls on its own.

He picks another one. Ada observes that someone in Zaman’s family is in darkness. She asks if they fell down a well.

Zaman shares that back then, to irrigate the Olive trees, people used to dig deep holes near them, like wells.

His great-uncle fell into that well, and his father jumped in after him as well. Hence, Zaman’s grandpa lost both his father and his brother in the tragic accident.

He starts crying incessantly while narrating the incident.

Ada asks him to pick another piece. This time, it doesn’t fall. She further questions what he feels when he looks at his son.

Zaman is unable to answer her, thanks to the burgeoning tears and emotions. Ada encourages him to make amends with Diyar.

The man says he will light candles for his ancestors in an attempt to let go.

Their meeting ends with Zaman suggesting Ada to publish her article.

Sitting at the beachside at night, Sevgi and Fiko share a heartfelt conversation about life.

When she tries to tell him about her cancer, Fiko says he already knows that she has been hiding the test results from everybody.

Sevgi is surprised to hear it. She asks him how did he know and he replies saying she is his life. He understands every bit of her.

Therefore, he can understand when she is lying or trying to hide something.

Moreover, Fiko says he will stand by her side come what may. It is her happiness that matters the most.

They share a sweet moment and then jump in the river for a swim.

Ada meets Toprak for a goodbye with his latest song playing in the background.

Erdem receives a package from Sevgi. It has a warrior’s clothing, which she wants him to wear for Leyla.

With rising debts, Leyla tells Fiko that they should sell the business to cover the costs. Fiko reluctantly agrees with her.

At the same time, her Mom arrives at their restaurant, accompanied by her father. Leyla gives him an emotional hug.

Leyla says that she failed to manage the restaurant and accepts that her mother was right earlier.

She asks her father if he wants to see her kids and the old man nods in response.

Diyar visits Zaman at his farm. He informs him that he didn’t sell his share of the property and returns the papers.

Subsequently, he asks, why did he not love him? Was it because Diyar’s mother died giving birth to him?

Zaman replies saying that he always loved him before Diyar was born. However, after his birth, Zaman thought he would not be a good father.

He thought, staying away from Diyar would be good for him. But Zaman sincerely accepts that he was wrong and offers a truce.

He hugs his son and promises to be by his side forever. Moreover, he requests him to stay a bit longer in the town.

When Leyla returns home, Erdem is ready wearing the warrior’s outfit. But awkwardly for him, Leyla’s parents are also with her.

He somehow manages to dodge the embarrassing situation and later shares a sweet moment with his father-in-law, where the latter takes his granddaughter in his arms for the first time.

Leyla throws a farewell party to close her restaurant business. Sevgi’s mother tells her that she has decided to travel across the world, in order to fulfill her bucket list.

She takes this step, pending for a long time, because Sevgi is finally alright (according to her mother), and she has Fiko by her side.

At the same party, Toprak announces that he is going back to the Netherlands with his family.

Canan shows Ada that her article is trending on the internet.

Leyla sings a song and everybody dances to it.

Inside the restaurant, Fiko accidentally comes across something on the leaking wall. He thinks it is a good omen and calls everybody.

Leyla uncovers the hidden object and it turns out to be a painting. It is not revealed whether it is a portrait of Eleni, her grandmother.

They get happy and joyous and consider it a blessing. Moreover, Leyla decides to not sell the place.

Sevgi and Leyla step out to tell Ada about the painting. But it is Ada who surprises them with good news instead.

She shares that she has received a job offer from abroad and she is accepting it. Ada asks her friends to come with her.

Though they initially decline her proposal, Sevgi and Leyla (along with Mavi) agree to come with her. Ada keeps the name of the country a secret.

Next, we see their respective families seeing them off for their next life-changing trip to an unknown location.

The three friends drive off in the car and Another Self season 2 ends on a vibrant note.

Did Sevgi’s Mother Know About Her Real Test Results?

No, she never got to know about her daughter’s Cancer results. Hence, thinking that she is fine, Mukadder decides to go on a journey across the globe.

What Does Another Self Season 2 Ending Mean?

Ever since the first season, we have seen the three friends going on long road trips.

Hence, the second season’s ending indicates that there will be another new location, which they will explore together in the third season.

Did Ada and Diyar break up?

Well, they don’t break up officially. However, the undertones may suggest otherwise. In my opinion, Ada will find her soulmate on her next trip.

But Diyar will stay in the timeline and might become the love of her life eventually.
